SYMBOLS IN MY ART
I love to use symbols in my art because they add meaning as well as beauty to the piece. Symbols are for the viewer to define what they are for them, but I am often asked “What do they mean”? So much of the time, there are many meanings for them in different cultures and times but the following is what I was thinking when I painted them.
Spiral The path to the center of being
Descending Squares The light of the Creator coming into the Painting
The Entity The life not as we know it—perhaps a spirit
Diagonal line to The light of the Creator
the Entity’s shoulder
Triskelion or Triple Spiral Could be the Crone, Mother and Maiden (Femininty). Or Father, Son and Holy Spirit or many
Dragon Fly Many meanings in many cultures, however, it has come to symbolize life after death for me, based on stories told by many of my clients.
Hearts Love, happiness, and for me, very light hearted and fun.
Seed of Life From sacred geometry, this has seven circles symbolizing the 7 days of Creation.
Shaman Healer, faith leader, mystic—universal for me, for all faiths.
Quail Family, togetherness
Circle with Cross and Dots The round earth with the 4 directions and the people in it.
Turtle Perseverance, getting there slowly but surely
3 Standing Figures The ancestors, those that have gone before
Sun with spiral The journey to the center housed in the light---another symbol for the Creator
Circle with 8 pie pieces Hogan, a permanent home
Blue wavy lines The River of Life
Two diamonds with a dot Shamanic Eye or Eye of Wisdom
Broken Arrow Peace
